Congratulations to the Final Winners – State of Illinois 2016 Future City® Competition-Waste Not, Want Not (Environmental)
Chicago—The State of Illinois 2016 National Future City® Competition generated ideas and excitement this year as expected at the University of Illinois at Chicago on Jan. 9, 2016. The first place team, St. Clair Junior High, is preparing to compete in the 2016 Future City National Finals during February 12-17, 2016 at the Capital Hilton in Washington DC. The top five teams in the 2016 State of Illinois Regional Future City Competition are:

This is the 23rd year of the regional competition in Illinois. Over twenty teams participated in the regional competition which is part of the national competition of the National Engineers Week. This year’s concept, “Waste Not, Want Not,” asked the sixth, seventh and eighth graders to design solid waste management systems of the future.
“We congratulate all of the teams and their efforts. This year’s topic, Waste Not, Want Not,” is an important topic and new solutions to waste management are critical to the survival of urban environments globally. The student teams excelled once again,” said Future City® Competition Regional Coordinator Don Wittmer, P.E., transportation manager with HNTB.
The top five teams will exhibit their models and be honored at the Chicagoland Engineers Week Award Dinner to be held on Fri., Feb. 26, 2016 at the Hilton Chicago.

On a national basis, the Future City® Competition hosts 1, 400 schools across the United States in this annual competition. There are 37 regions involved in the competition nationwide. Begun in 1992, the Future City® Competition is part of the rich history of DiscoverE.

The State of Illinois Future City Competition is celebrating its 23rd year as a regional group in the Future City Competition.® The regional competition is comprised of teams, schools, and professionals from Illinois and Missouri.
